Baby dreams are among the most searched, and among the most surrounded by literal readings: pregnancy, news, an announcement. It is worth separating what people report from what tradition promises.
The literal reading is the least likely
The association between dreaming of a baby and becoming pregnant appears in virtually every folk tradition. There is no evidence for it, and no mechanism by which a dream would announce a pregnancy.
What exists is the reverse of what is usually assumed: people thinking about having children, living around babies, or who have experienced pregnancy loss dream of babies more. The waking theme shows up in the dream, not the future.
What the symbolic reading proposes
The common reading treats the baby as something new and fragile that depends on care: a project, a beginning, a part of yourself still forming. An older child tends to be read differently, tied to your own childhood.

The variation matters more than the symbol
Baby or child? Yours or someone else's? Were you caring for it, carrying it, losing sight of it, or only watching? Was the baby crying? Was it well?
